It might take some time for both you and your partner to get used to CPAP. At first, you might not be able to use it for the whole night. This is common. It's better to build up use slowly than to try very hard too early and give up. Be patient with yourself and with the device.
Despite its effectiveness in resolving sleep disordered breathing, adherence to CPAP therapy is approximately 50%. Interventions demonstrated to improve initial CPAP use include education, heated humidification and cognitive behavioral therapy added to education. Advanced technology PAP devices, such as autoPAP (APAP) and bilevel therapies, have not been shown to consistently improve adherence in patients who are CPAP naïve or in patients who have been intolerant to standard CPAP therapy.
Your Pressure Needs Adjusting: Bloating and gas occur when your therapy pressure is too high or too low. It’s easy to accidentally ingest too much air when your pressure is too high, but if it’s too low, you may swallow air in gulps during each sleep apnea episode.
Air Leaks from Your Mask: If you’re waking up with dry eyes after using your CPAP, you may likely have an air leak from your CPAP mask, most likely coming from the bridge of your nose.
What are the side effects of CPAP? CPAP treatment is a very safe treatment but it may cause discomfort in some people, such as a dry or stuffy nose, irritation of the skin on your face, and sore eyes due to air leaking around the mask.
Combined modality treatment individualized for patients is necessary, within a multidisciplinary team setting including respiratory physicians, maxillofacial and otolaryngology surgeons. Typically multilevel surgery is required and all patients intolerant of CPAP should be referred for an otolaryngology opinion, to assess for surgical targets to reduce upper airway obstruction.
Stay Hydrated: Starting your morning with a glass of water may reduce the likelihood and severity of these headaches.

Most people don’t develop a cough with CPAP, but when it does happen it can be pretty annoying. A CPAP cough is usually caused by your throat or airway becoming sensitive to your CPAP air or irritation caused by your CPAP equipment.
Try Lubricating Eye Drops: If this becomes a common issue, your doctor may suggest using lubricating eye drops to provide your eyes with additional moisture.
